The Padma River

The Padma is one of the major river of Bangladesh.It is originated from the Gangotri glacier of  Himalayas.The Padma enters Bangladesh from India near Chapai Nababganj.A major city of Western Bangladesh is Rajshahi,which is situated on the North bank of the Padma river.The Maximum depth of the Padma river is 1571 feet(479m),the average depth is 968feet (295m).The depth of the Padma river is gradually decreasing after building of Farakka barrage on the upstream of river in India West Bengal.By the way,the river is abounded with fishes.Fish is an important wealth.Our fisher men catch a huge quantity of fishes.They earn a lot of foreign exchange by exporting fishes.Fish is our main item of food.The river is also helpful for transportation of goods .The transportation cost is very low than any transportation medium.The river is full of water in Rainy season and sometimes it causes flood.
