The Gorai & Dakatia River

The Gorai river is one of the longest river  in Bangladesh and a distributary of Ganges river.Gorai river enters in Bangladesh through Kurigram district,at the border of Kurigram Sadar and finally the merged flow meets the Shitalakshaya river near Narayanganj district.The length of this river is 90km, the width is 400m and the depth is 10m.

The Dakatia river is the first tributary of the Meghna river  that it receives after entering Noakhali district.The Dakatia river is the combination of several hill streams through Kakrai,Pagli Boaljar etc ,which are originated from Tippera hills.The length of this river is 110km,the width is 180 and the depth is 9m.There are three gauging stations on Dakatia river at Hajiganj,Raipura and Hazimara.The Dakatia was a formerly a most important channel for trade.It is still navigable in the lower region by country boats during the rainy season.The upper region is navigable throughout the year.
