The Karnaphuli River

The Karnaphuli river originates from the Lushai hills of Asam in India and  flows through the Rangamati and Chittagong district and falls into the Bay of Bengal.This is the main river of Chittagong and Rangamati.The total length of this river is 160km and width is 130m and the depth is 15m.A large hydroelectric power plant using Karnaphuli river.It was built in the Kaptai region during 1960.The mouth of the river hosts Chittangong sea port,the main port of Bangladesh.The Kaptai dam is the location of the Hydrolic-power station,the only hydrolic -electric power plant in Bangladesh was constructed in Kaptai in 1962.An earth filled dam on the karnaphuli river ,the kaptai river,the Kaptai damped created the kaptai Lake,which acts as the water reservoir for the Hydro-power station.The power plant produces a total of 230 megawatts electricity megawatts.In Chondroghona,the famous Karnaphuli paper mills and reion mills are situated.
