Jamuna Bridge of Bangladesh

The present  name of Jamuna multi-purpose bridge is Bangabandho bridge.This is the largest road and rail bridge of Bangladesh.The construction of Jamuna bridge was started on 16th October,1994. Steve Polard(England) was the chief Engineer of  Jamuna bridge project.The construction company  of Jamuna bridge was Hundai Engineering &Construction(South Korea).In this bridge, Meter Gage type railline was used.The length of this bridge is 4.8km,the width is 18.5m.Total number of lane of this bridge is 4 and total number of piles is 121.It has 50 pilars and also 49 span.The construction of Jamuna bridge was finished on 23th  March ,1998.The opening ceremony of this bridge was on 23th June , 1998.The total project cost was jointly financed by the government of Bangladesh, the  government of Japan,the World Bank and the Asian Bank.The bridge has removed difficulties in carrying goods and passengers between the two parts of the country.
